Riots have been going on in Kenosha after Jacob Blake was shot by police while they served a felony arrest warrant for rape charges. Blake was wielding a knife and refused to comply with officer’s demands. As he reached into his car’s center console officers fired. The Black Lives Matter movement instantly sprang into action and the entire area of Kenosha has turned into chaos. Protesters are coming up from the greater Chicago-land area, crossing state lines to participate in the riot.

In this first video we can see tensions are raising. The two groups are in close proximity and intermingled. There’s clearly disorder and we can see the man later killed in the shooting coming close to the camera shouting “shoot me nigga.” His face and distinctive colored shirt are seen clearly in later videos where he’s laying on his back deceased. You can also see the shooter in this video. He’s the man in the olive drab green shirt carrying a rifle. The shooter has been identified online as Kyle Rittenhouse.

The next video is the shooting incident. This video is distant and partial but it does show the full shooting incident where we can see the pursuing man with the burgundy shirt now tied up around his neck. He’s chasing the shooter through a parking lot but takes a shot to the head and collapses. This video does not show what lead up to the shooting and this was the first one to widely circulate

This crucial video is from a farther away point of view and it starts just a few moments before the last one. Those few moments catch something that changes the whole story. The pursuing man with the red shirt is clearly visible throwing a lit molotov cocktail at the shooter. Assault with a deadly weapon changes the legal situation for self defense and may mean that the shooter is unlikely to face serious penalties. In the absence of justice and peace the public is left with no choice but to defend itself.

Lastly, this video shows Kyle Rittenhouse submitting to police. Based on the video it appears he was surrounded by police and gave a pre-determined hand signal before turning himself in. It’s not clear how this situation will continue to play out. Charges may be coming for Rittenhouse but a conviction will be difficult. Regardless of the legal situation the city remains in a state of high tension and tonight’s riots might be just as bad or worse.
