The US Navy reported a successful weapons proficiency test of a surface-to-air missile fired from a Navy vessel. Video was released today at noon of the weapons test. A Standard Missile 2 was fired at a target in a Navy Surface Fleet lethality and tactical proficiency demonstration. The test took place off the coast of Virginia.
Video shows the USS Winston S Churchill, an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, firing the Standard Missile 2. The missile tracks for miles before impacting an airborne target. The demonstration shows the Navy’s ability to protect from distant airborne threats.
