Things have been going downhill in the Pacific Northwest. Oregon and Washington have been having particularly bad experiences with race riots in 2020. The organizer of one group, Lilith Sinclair, has made her plans for a final solution abundantly clear. She says without mixing words that her group’s mission is “abolition of the United States as we know it.”
Words like this put the groups actions into a different category. Peaceful protesting is explicitly allowed by the constitution in the 1st amendment of the Bill of Rights. Violent action is not allowed and to call for abolition of the country turns it into something else entirely.
It’s natural to wonder how high up these sentiments go. The mayors and governors in the region have not done much to stop the rioting. The autonomous zone in Seattle began when the city’s police were told to abandon the Eastern District Station. The national guard stood at the ready but the Governor held them back.
