Nine Sheriffs in the state of Texas have declared the will not be enforcing the Governor’s orders to wear a mask in public. On July 2nd Governor Abbott ordered the statewide use of masks and limited gatherings to 10 people. Dispute over masks has become a political issue and numerous Sheriffs are taking a stand.
The order from Governor Abbot includes punishments. First time violates are given a warning but the 2nd violation will be $250 and each subsequent violation is another $250. He also included a proclamation that gives mayors and judges the ability to impose restrictions on outdoor gatherings.
If Texans commit to wearing face coverings in public spaces and follow the best health and safety practices, we can both slow the spread of COVID-19 and keep Texas open for business. I urge all Texans to wear a face covering in publicTexas Governor Abbott
